In April, American became the first U.S. airline to test next-generation technology and procedures that will significantly reduce carbon emissions and save fuel on transatlantic routes.
The testing forms part of a joint initiative with the Federal Aviation Administration, European Commission (EC) and other international airlines which aims to accelerate the application of new technologies and procedures, which have a direct impact on reducing carbon emissions and noise pollution, as well as conserving fuel.
